Welcome to the website of Ian Hitchings,
"Britain’s foremost True Crime Writer and Author".

Ian Hitchings, is a true crime writer and internationally acclaimed author, regular contributor to major newspapers and magazines worldwide. He painstakingly and meticulously researches the precise sequence of events which embroil "HIGH PROFILE" homicide cases. Every murder is in some way horrific or dramatic but the one's he covers have a different element to them, it's the calculated coldness and skill of the killer which makes them quite chilling. They are usually so gruesome they beyond all comprehension.
For more than two decades, he has told the true crime stories of those wildly different experience in such gripping prose that he's had more than one bestseller on his hands and will probably have others. He steps where other writers would undoubtedly fear to tread. But you're unlikely to have heard of him.
An officially rehabilitated ex-prisoner under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, he's entitled "to be treated for all purposes in law as a person who has not been convicted or sentenced". A staunch campaigner for prison reform. Ian Hitchings continues to have the tortured look one associates with the criminal fraternity rather than those who merely write about them.
"Fortunately, I've learnt to live throughout my life following a simple mantra - the people who mind don't matter, and the people who matter don't mind. With my background I've had to do that. You only get one attempt on this earth, so it's far better to be myself. And if people can't handle it then fine".
His past is not something he shies away from but nor is it something on which he wants to dwell. The no nonsense polite but firm attitude has made him many enemies and the victim of various sustained dirty tricks smear campaigns, including foiled attempts to poison and blackmail him.
His life has been a turbulent roller-coaster with all the twists and turns of a Hollywood blockbuster. I admire the way in which he handled them with utter grace, control and most commendably honesty.
Outspoken and, in his own words, "old fashioned", Ian Hitchings is an extraordinary interesting man, extremely logical and hard-working. Whose friends and clients read like a "Who's Who" some of the world's most famous and notorious figures.
He is constantly in demand by the media to give his views on crime and punishment. Casually dressed in a cardigan, white shirt and jeans, there is nothing flamboyant or charismatic about him. He's a refreshingly down to earth, plain speaking, no airs or graces man, always ready with his quick humour and anecdotes. You'd have no idea he was one of the world's most famous authors.
Step forward and take a bow! Ian Hitchings, Britain's foremost True Crime Writer. Ladies and gentlemen, behold the writer. If he's blinking a little in the limelight, that's because he's not used to it. Of all the books he's written, his name has appeared on scarcely any of them, more often than not he uses numerous pseudonym names. Not that he's complaining - which probably makes him the only true crime writer in the world without an ego.
